According to the sheriff’s office, 75 students are under investigation for a role they may have played in creating a mess at the end of the year that staff had to clean up before the last day of class on Thursday.

“They took it a little too far,” said Audrey Martin, a 2018 Rayle University graduate. “So it was kind of a bad joke.”

The prank included, among other things, track barriers placed in the hallways and vaselines on class doors.

“You know, everyone – at once – would do something stupid here and there when I was a kid,” said Martin. “Overall, I think the joke would have been good, you know, if they hadn’t taken it to a certain extent.”

In Yan We’er’s mind, there was absolutely nothing “good” about what was described as a big joke.

Weir said, “I think the penalty should be to send their grades back again. That’s my personal opinion.” “There was no need for them to do what they did the day before the end of school.”

In a statement, Boone school officials said, “Unfortunately, due to the extensive damage caused by students, we have received reports of our staff members being injured during the cleanup process.”

Boone Commissioner and high school parent Jesse Brewer believes what happened requires a firm response—one that balances punishment with the promise of better days to come.

“Yeah, we need to address the problem. Yes, we need to get that message across to other people,” Brewer said. “But we have to make sure we remember, if they’re 18 or 17 or 18, they’re still kids. And they’re our kids. All in all, they’re good kids and we have to keep that in mind as well.”

Raleigh High School’s graduation date is scheduled for Saturday, June 3, at Truist Arena on the campus of Northern Kentucky University.

There was talk that the students who participated in the prank might not be allowed to walk on stage. Boone Company School officials did not address the matter in the statement issued Friday.
