A two-year-old boy died Saturday afternoon in Spanish Fork after being run over by landscaping equipment. Spanish Fork Police, Fire and EMS were dispatched to a home near 1400 N Sunset Drive after reports of a child being trampled. First responders made life-saving efforts, according to police, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries.

“The police learned that the family was doing their own landscaping business and that the father had been working in the backyard on a small track bulldozer,” a press release read. “The police learned that the father was working alone in the backyard and that at some point the child walked out of the house without anyone knowing, walked behind the equipment and was run over.”

Spanish Forque Police Lieutenant Cory Slay Maker said the child’s identity may be released, with the permission of the family, after they have been given time to notify other relatives. The case is still active as the police await information from the coroner and determine the chain of events.

“It’s a terrible accident,” said Slaymaker. “We are trying to determine exactly what happened.”
