Verizon continues to upgrade the best network in Raleigh
-
Verizon engineers have aggressively deployed 5G Ultra Wideband throughout Raleigh. This coverage has recently been expanded with the addition of new macro cell sites. Customers near the intersection of Lynn Road and Leesville Road through Lake Lynn Park and customers along US Hwy 42 near the intersection of Old Stage Road can now experience the speed and security of 5G Ultra Wideband service. In addition, later this year, engineers will light one new macro site along US Hwy 42, a new macro site in Fuquay Varina and one along the 540 loop and Honeycutt Rd intersection.
-
In addition to adding more 5G services using C-band spectrum, Verizon is also deploying 5G service using Millimeter Wave (mmWave), its premium high-band spectrum that allows for extremely fast speeds and massive capacity. Verizon recently added mmWave specifically for customers near Crabtree Street and the 440 Loop intersection one block from Crabtree Mall and customers along the Brier Creek Parkway in front of the Brier Creek Commons shopping district can now experience the speed and security of its 5G ultra-broadband service.
-
The architects have also focused on improving the customer experience while in large gathering areas such as conference spaces, stadiums, airports and office parks, and recently upgraded the PNC Plaza building in downtown with a new wireless system within the building.
-
Raleigh’s exceptional 5G coverage uses a combination of mmWave and C-band spectrum recently acquired from Verizon. Verizon engineers have limited the use of 60MHz of C-band spectrum to deliver 5G service to customers. By the end of the year, customers in Raleigh will be able to take advantage of up to 160MHz spectrum when it becomes available for 5G Ultra Wideband, nearly tripling the bandwidth available to customers. This additional bandwidth will turbocharge your service, providing much faster speeds, much more capacity to accommodate more customers, and more robust services.
-
Finally, the addition of 5G service and several additional wireless solutions allow more data to be transmitted on the wireless network in Raleigh. This exponential increase in data being transmitted to and from cell sites serving the community requires improved fiber-optic cable links. Fiber optic cables are used to transmit data between cellular sites and connect those sites to the rest of the network. Verizon has increased capacity on fiber connections at many cell sites in the Raleigh area so they can carry 10 times the amount of data.
“Whether our customers enjoy connecting with friends and family on the go, connecting their smart homes through a home internet product or using our service in Raleigh for small business or enterprise applications, we know customers count on us,” said Eric. Leah, Vice President of Engineering and Operations, Verizon. “Our team is working hard at Rally to achieve these results, and we are not slowing down.”
With these and other technological advances on Verizon’s network, customers can use more data in more ways. This multi-service network works on:
-
Internet of Things (IoT) devices that do very little networking and stay put,
-
Smartphones with endless data usage opportunities in a highly mobile environment,
-
Home and Business Internet that provides wireless network connectivity to homes, offices, and retail environments
-
Complex solutions such as augmented reality or real-time data and video analysis for organizations that require massive computing capabilities.
As 5G technology advances and is more widely adopted by consumers, the variety of solutions that will use Verizon’s network will continue to evolve as well.
